The effectiveness of personal preventive measures against occupational contact dermatitis in healthcare workers: A systematic review

Healthcare workers (HCWs) embody the principles of hand hygiene and protective attire to support self- patient safety, but materials involved in this process are found be offending agents. The incidence occupational contact dermatitis (OCD) among HCWs keeps increasing. This review aimed evaluate effectiveness, investigate outcome clinical skin condition improvement with implementation primary preventive measures (PPM), specifically: barrier cream, emollient, moisturiser, gloves use, education. All relevant literature about PPM against OCD published between 1995 2020 was searched. data search performed using PUBMED, Cochrane Library, ScienceDirect databases. There were 16 studies comprised 8 randomised controlled trials (RCTs), 7 trials, one comparative study. study results showed that moisturiser or gloves, education effective tools reducing number symptoms cases OCD. no significant difference effect cream use emollient. advised used non-latex powder-free latex gloves. Education also observed improve behaviour workers. is recommended educated ascertain proper measures, increase knowledge awareness, promote positive behaviour.
